The Word - A Little Bit More

Jesus declared, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."  Truth is an essential part of worship because the more we know about God the more we love Him and the more intelligently and accurately we can worship Him.

Truth comes to us in two ways.  First, it comes through general revelation; the creation without and the moral law within. This is called general revelation because it is experienced by everyone, believer and unbeliever alike.  Second, truth comes through special revelation; The Bible, the Word of God and the witness of the Holy Spirit. This special revelation is experienced by those who “have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God” and by others graced by God to do so.

We at the Community Vineyard Church hold that the Bible, the Scriptures, alone is sufficient to function as the infallible rule of faith for the church and the final authority for the believer.  God is not silent.  God spoke, and when He did He spoke accurately and truthfully.  While, as finite human beings we may not know anything infinitely or exhaustively, we may know some things truly because God has revealed them to us in His Word.

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

God’s Word (logos) is accurately recorded or written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and faithfully preserved for our teaching, rebuking, correcting, training and equipping.  Therefore, as members of Community Vineyard, the Bible will be our guide and our final authority on all matters of faith and morality, corporate and personal, inside the church and out.

Further, it is our solemn responsibility to teach new believers the commands of Christ, our children the instruction of the Lord, and mature believers the word of God in its fullness.  We will do this in a variety of ways with built-in, intentional redundancy.  Sunday School, Children’s Church, Bible Studies, Small Groups, and our Sunday morning worship will revolve around the teaching of the Word of God with the goal of seeing souls saved, families healed, Christians matured, lives changed and most especially, God glorified.  We have seen the Word accomplish these things and we desire to see even more!

Some are specifically called and gifted to preach and teach the Word. This responsibility falls primarily on the pastors and elders but we are also expecting God to raise up a new generation of anointed teachers and preachers who can come alongside and, together with us, preach the Word of God with great grace.
